Policies

Circulation Policies

Everything you need to know about borrowing, returning, and caring for library materials.
1.0 Borrowing Privileges

1.1 Eligible Borrowers

The LRCC Library is for the use of the faculty, staff, and students of the college. With the approval of the college president or the library director, external users with a demonstrated need to consult our collections — and local clergy of any Christian faith — may register for onsite use, without borrowing privileges. Faculty, staff, and students have priority in the use of materials, equipment, staff assistance, service, and seating.

1.2 Loan Periods

Material Students Faculty / Staff
Circulating Books 21 days End of semester
Audio Materials 7 days 7 days
Videos 7 days 7 days
Transparencies & Vertical Files Non-circulating 3 hours
Periodicals & Reference Books Non-circulating 3 hours
CD-ROMs Library use only — 2 hours, renewable for another 2 hours if not requested by another patron

1.3 Reserve Materials

Faculty may request that circulating material be set aside on reserve for students — for use in the library (2 hours) or borrowed for 24 hours, 3 days, or 7 days, at the discretion of the instructor.

1.5 Renewals

A patron may renew one (1) time, provided the material is not needed by another borrower — in person or by phone at (910) 843-5304 ext. 1013.

1.6 Holds / Reserves

Place a hold on any circulating item currently checked out — via the online catalog or in person. When filled, you’ll be notified and the item is held for 2 days. When an item has 3 or more holds, its loan period is shortened (21 days → 7 days, or 7 days → 3 days).

1.7 Check-Out Procedure

Present your ID card with the material you wish to borrow; the librarian will check it out and stamp the date-due slip.

Please note: No one may check out material for another person. The borrower is responsible for all material checked out in their name.

1.8 Inter-Library Loan

The college has interlibrary loan agreements with four Christian college libraries. Faculty, staff, and students doing class-related research may borrow books or request copies of journal articles.

  • Search the LRCC Library thoroughly first, then submit the request in writing on the ILL form at the Circulation Desk.
  • Allow at least three weeks for processing; return all borrowed material within six weeks.
  • The borrower covers return postage (Library Rate). Article copies are yours to keep — printing costs $0.10 per page for fax/e-mail arrivals.

2.1 Overdue Fines

Material Overdue Fine
Circulating Books $0.25 / day
Audio Cassettes $0.50 / day
Video Cassettes $0.50 / day
Vertical Files No fine
CD-ROMs No fine
Periodicals & Reference Books No fine
Maximum fine: $5.00 per item, payable in full at the Circulation Desk. With a valid reason and at the discretion of the Library Director, a partial payment may be made — final payment is due before the end of the semester.

2.2 Overdue Notices

Overdue notices may be sent as a courtesy. Non-receipt does not relieve the patron from paying fines — it is your responsibility to monitor your library transactions.

2.3 Non-Respondents

Important: A student with overdue material or an outstanding fine loses borrowing privileges until resolved. At semester’s end, unresolved accounts may prevent taking final exams, receiving grades/transcripts, receiving a diploma, or registering for a new term. Exemptions are at the discretion of the Library Director.

3.1 Damaged Materials

Fines on damaged materials are determined by the Library Director and the Administration. Material damaged beyond repair is charged at replacement cost.

3.2 Lost Materials

Replacement cost plus any necessary processing fee will be charged to the patron, as determined by the Library Director and the Administration.

4.1 Classification System

Books, recordings, and CD-ROMs are classified by the Dewey Decimal System. The online catalog is at lumbeerivercc.library.sit.

4.2 Library Equipment

Audio and video equipment may be used in the AV Room only. Computers and printers are available at their stations; the librarian will help you locate CD-ROMs on request.

4.3 Common Courtesies

  • No eating or drinking in the Library.
  • No talking above a whisper — step into the hall for discussions.
  • Throw waste into the wastebasket and push chairs in.
  • Leave pulled materials in the designated areas for the librarian to shelve.
  • Unattended children are not permitted; parents are responsible for children at all times.
  • Library assistants on duty possess the full authority of the librarian in maintaining order.
